Santuario de Animales de San Francisco de Asis
While I was external affairs manager in the ASCE UPRM chapter, I pitched to Idelys Berrocaless (then Service Committee leader of our ASCE UPRM chapter) to initiate a project to help the San Francisco de Asis Animal Sanctuary. In contacting the sanctuary we were told that item donations were appreciated, but even more at the time help cleaning and improving their outdoor facilities, especially the outdoor patio for the dogs and the staff rest area, would help improve both people and animals’ quality of life. As civil engineering students, we felt this was a task we could uniquely handle well. Through constant communication with the shelter we designed mockup ideas for the staff center, based on the budget we had at hand, and the existing conditions and spatial limitations of the center.
